The Top 5 YouTube Channels All Medical Students Should Use

📌 Editor’s Note: Originally published in 2023 during my pre-clinical years at University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Still relevant, still real. Filed under the journey. — Shavonna

As a medical student, I was unaware of all the medical school resources I needed besides suggested or required textbooks by my school. However, as I progressed through my semesters, I started to learn about how beneficial youtube could be to other students.

Each class taught me that it’s not about being the smartest but about having resources to help you understand better. I would be in amazement and sometimes upset that I couldn’t learn information like other students, but I never considered maybe they have access to resources that help them learn more efficiently.

So below, I am listing 5 YouTube Channels that have helped me with challenging subjects.

  1. Dirty Medicine – This channel simplified everything for my biochemistry class in the best way. I found the material in class overwhelming and hard to take in at once. You can sit in a class for two hours and still have little understanding of the subject (well, at least for me). These videos help to narrow down a 2-hour lecture to 30 minutes or less. A range of other subjects are available as well like genetics, immunology, biostatistics, etc.,
  2. Armando Hasudungan – This channel has subjects ranging from anatomy to physiology and beyond—a must-add to your channels list.
  3. Medicosis Perfectionalis – When I say this helped me with everything immunology, it did. I was not too fond of immunology because I could not understand the concept the first time, but these videos will help you. This channel will help with microbiology as well.
  4. Osmosis – Here, you will find thousands of videos that have a brief overview of topics with enough information to provide clarity.
  5. Ninja Nerd – 9 times out of 10, with this channel, you will find a video on some form of disease or process in the body that is step by step.
  6. Shavonna Noble – So I added a freebie channel that you should know about which is me. Don’t forget to subscribe to follow my journey to Becoming Dr. Noble.

I hope these channels can help you on your medical school journey. I am sure there are other channels I have not listed, so please take some time to do further research.
